CATAMARAN CHARTER

Odyssey Mentawai(Mahalo)

Ride world-class waves. Sleep like a dream. Share the stoke.

  • 46FT CATAMARAN
  • 8 GUESTS
  • 11 NIGHTS
  • EN-SUITE CABINS
  • SURF PRO ON BOARD

The experience

Odyssey Mentawai, the boat many of you will know as Mahalo, is the quiet upgrade: a 46ft catamaran that rides flat where mono-hulls roll, purpose-fitted for chasing waves through the Mentawai and Tello Islands. Same boat, same crew, new name.

You leave Padang Harbor in the evening and make the crossing overnight, asleep in a proper bed, so the first thing you see when you wake is the lineup. An on-board surf pro reads every session with you: where to sit, when to go, which reef does what on which tide.

Two double deluxe cabins and two singles, all en-suite. A shaded back deck, bean bags on the bow, a cold saloon for the hottest hours. Small numbers, big days, shared stoke.

The waves

TELLO ISLANDS ALL LEVELS ASU INT/ADV BAWA EXPERT THE MENTAWAIS ALL LEVELS PLAYGROUNDS ALL LEVELS SECRET LEFTS INT/ADV

Odyssey Mentawai runs the Mentawai, the quieter Tello chain and the northern route up to the Hinako Islands off Nias for Asu and Bawa: fewer boats, emptier lineups, the same world-class reefs.

Life on board

The hulls

Catamaran stability: no rolling anchorages, no queasy crossings. Sleep flat, eat flat, recover properly.

The cabins

Two double deluxe air-conditioned cabins and two singles, every one with a private en-suite bathroom.

The saloon

A modern air-conditioned saloon with TV for the midday heat, charts on the table and cold drinks in reach.

The decks

Shaded upper back deck, lower deck at water level and a front deck of bean bags for the golden hour.

The surf pro

A professional surfer on board full-time: session strategy, board advice, and someone to push your surfing every day.

The galley

Three meals a day, Indonesian and Western, vegetarian with notice, plus snacks, juices, and a crate of 24 beers per person.

The crossing & the days after

  1. 18:00

    Depart Padang

Lines off at sunset. Dinner as the mainland lights fade behind the stern.

  2. 23:00

    The crossing

The cat rides flat through the night. You’re asleep in an en-suite cabin, not a bouncing bunk.

  3. 06:00

    Dawn in the lineup

Anchor drops. The first set of the trip peels down the reef eighty metres away.

  4. DAYS 2 TO 10

    The rhythm

Surf, eat, move, repeat. The pro calls the sessions; the captain follows the swell.

Good to know

Odyssey Mentawai questions, answered

Is Odyssey Mentawai the same boat as Mahalo?

Yes. Odyssey Mentawai is the boat that used to be called Mahalo. Same 46ft catamaran, same crew, same trip: only the name has changed, so if you sailed with us as Mahalo you are booking the boat you already know.

What makes the Odyssey Mentawai catamaran different from a mono-hull charter?

As a 46ft catamaran, Odyssey Mentawai sits flat where mono-hull boats roll. That means steadier anchorages, easier sleep and a far smoother overnight crossing from Padang.

How many guests does Odyssey Mentawai take?

Up to 8 guests in two double deluxe en-suite cabins and two single cabins, so everyone gets a proper bed and a private bathroom.

Does Odyssey Mentawai have a surf guide on board?

Yes. A professional surfer travels with every trip to call the sessions, read the tides and help push your surfing all week.

Which islands does the Odyssey Mentawai charter surf?

Both the Mentawai and the quieter Tello Islands, so you can chase swell and dodge crowds across a wider stretch of Sumatra’s reefs.
